LIVE OUR DREAMS, FLY OUR FLAG

It’s that time of the year again. Time when all residents of this little island nation can unabashedly express their love for country, and home. While taking a brief respite after lunch, and waiting for the big show tonight, I pondered the questions that the organizers tossed us:

When you think of the words ‘Live Our Dreams, Fly Our Flag,’ what image or words come to mind?
What are your dreams and aspirations?
What is it about Singapore that has allowed you to live your dreams?
What is it about the Singapore flag that inspires you?

The answers are up in the form of an image wall on  this site.

When I think of the words ‘Live Our Dreams, Fly Our Flag,’ I count the many blessings I have in this life …

A safe and secure country to call home:
Every time I hear of unrests, riots and war elsewhere in the world, I’m all the more thankful for the peace and bustling economy that we enjoy here.

An efficient public service system:
A senior management colleague who has since relocated back to our European headquarters after living almost 3 years here, told us we’re very fortunate. He remarked that only here can we see government and private sector coming together to build/ expand the MRT system in 3 years. He quipped, “in Europe, it would take us 10 years just to add 3 more stations to the MRT line.”

A multi-cultural country where there’s no racial discrimination, where my inter-racial kids can grow up being grounded in Asian values while absorbing Western technology and enjoying the pop culture of today’s youth.

My wish this year? That Singaporeans everywhere will …

Learn to appreciate this home for the gem it is,
Treasure their lives here and
Aspire to even wilder, and greater, dreams of Happiness.

Happy Birthday indeed, Singapore!

Follow your passion, and success will follow you.
